"BTC-Pitch" (Build The Correct Pitch) is a specialized tuner designed to reduce reliance on traditional tuners by enhancing the user's auditory skills. This tool caters specifically to players of wind and string instruments.

The tuner function of BTC-Pitch effectively detects input pitches and outputs reference notes accurately. Traditional tuners often lead musicians to judge their tuning solely by numerical displays, limiting their ability to discern sound discrepancies aurally. In contrast, BTC-Pitch allows users to tune while actively listening for deviations from the reference note, thus fostering the development of their pitch recognition abilities. Additionally, users can manually produce reference notes and engage in exercises that cultivate an understanding of harmony through intervals such as thirds or fifths.

Beyond its tuner capabilities, BTC-Pitch features two additional functions aimed at enhancing one’s sense of pitch:

• Blind Test: This feature enables users to play freely without visually referencing the tuner display. The results provide insights into individual pitch accuracy and the overall balance across the scale.
• Listening Quiz: Users can train their pitch recognition through customizable listening quizzes, choosing pitches within various scales (diatonic, chromatic, pentatonic) across an octave range. Notably, BTC-Pitch does not evaluate results, encouraging fearless exploration.

Activating these functions requires a ticket per session; however, users are provided with 50 trial tickets upon initial installation. Permanent-use tickets are also available for purchase.

For optimal experience, it is advisable to use BTC-Pitch with headphones like EarPods connected to an iPhone. While the app can function solely on an iPhone, appropriate adjustments to speaker volume and microphone sensitivity are necessary to prevent feedback. Furthermore, the use of a commercially available piezo microphone allows for ensemble use of BTC-Pitch.
